Greetings From the Northwoods!
Greetings from the Northwoods of Wisconsin! We love coming up here for long weekends and especially for the 4th of July. It’s just so nice to get away from work and the city to enjoy some time outdoors in the woods and on the lake. There are lots of good restaurants and fun activities to check out up here, too.
Monday was a beautiful day so we took a little walk in the woods and then spent the rest of the day on the lake. So relaxing! It’s been pretty hot and humid up here so this light, white dress was perfect to keep cool. Also love that this dress has POCKETS! I always need to be able to get my hands free to pick up Margot so I love any time and outfit has good pockets. Of course I had my straw market tote with me to tote everything we needed to take out on the boat.
I hope everyone had a great weekend and has a wonderful 4th! This is quickly becoming my favorite time of the year.

My Skincare Routine Part 1: Morning
About five years ago I started getting really into skincare and discovered Asian beauty. My skincare routine is based loosely on an Asian skincare routine in that I layer a lot of products and double cleanse at night. Some of my products are Asian beauty products but I definitely have a lot of mainstream faves. Everyone’s skin is different so what works for me may not work for you, but I hope you find some good information and some good product recommendations!
I’m not even going to list this as a step in my routine, but I start with rinsing my face with warm water using a microfiber cloth. That’s it for morning cleansing!
STEP 1: ACID TONER
After rinsing I use an acid toner applied with a cotton round. This helps to prep my face for acids and PH dependent products. Currently using COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner.
STEP 2: ACIDS AND PH DEPENDENT PRODUCTS
I use a vitamin C serum which requires a PH of 3.5 or less so this is when I apply it. This Sunday Riley serum makes my skin glow and smells like citrus.
Next I like to use a mild BHA toner to clear my pores and keep oil away. This COSRX Two in One Poreless Power Liquid is amazing and working wonders on my skin!
STEP 3: HYDRATING TONER
A hydrating toner really helps to moisturize my dry skin and prep my skin for the rest of my hydrating products. This COSRX Essence has the same ingredients as SK-II but much more wallet friendly!
STEP 4: SERUM
I added in this Glossier Hyaluronic Acid serum into my routine to help plump some of my fine lines. I especially like the results I’m getting around my eyes! This serum isn’t sticky, absorbs well, and layers nicely under makeup.
STEP 5:Â EYE CREAM
You all know I’m all about bright, hydrated under eyes! This is when I apply my Olehenriksen Banana Bright eye cream so it has time to sink in before I apply makeup.
STEP 6: MOISTURIZER
To seal in all of my essences and serums I top it all off with a moisturizer. Currently using Drunk Elephant Protini Peptide cream. This is a great, lightweight moisturizer but on the pricey side. I switch back and forth between this and the Cerave Baby moisturizer I talked about in my baseline routine.
STEP 7: SUNSCREEN
I use SPF 50 on my face every day. Sunscreen is so important but it also has to layer well under my makeup. BareMinerals Prep Step is my all-time favorite but apparently it is being re-formulated and will re-launch in August. In the meantime I’m using Biore Sarasara UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence which is also a really good choice. It dries down nicely and plays well under makeup.
Does this seem like a lot? Haha, maybe it is, but I really do enjoy it, and I definitely enjoy the results. Have you tried an Asian beauty routine out before?

Linen for Summer
I am loving all of the linen-like fabrics that are out there right now. Our weather seems to go back and forth between rainy and cold and then blistering hot and this light weight fabric is perfect to stay cool in the heat and humidity. After a chilly, rainy week it was really nice to have a few sunny days.
This past weekend we took a short trip down to Chicago to see Matt’s grandparents. Matt’s grandma is so good at gardening, her back yard is small but so beautiful! I shared some of the pictures I took of her pretty flowers on Instagram. We all enjoyed sitting outside chatting and watching Margot run around. My grandparents all passed away quite a while ago so I’ve adopted Matt’s as my own. Now it is so sweet to see Margot with them! It had been a while since we had been together so Margot was a little shy at first but she warmed up pretty quickly and gave hugs and kisses when we left. She was waving and saying “Bye Grampa. Bye Gramma” for like five minutes after we drove away. It was so cute!
Sunday we went to the grocery store and spent some time out in the back yard. I could tell Margot was getting restless because her terrible twos behavior starts coming out. She is so sweet most of the time and I just love having my weekends with her but of course she has her moments. I guess everyone does, really.
Here’s to hoping this week goes by fast and then we have a few days off for the 4th! Have a great week!

What I’m Luvving This Week
It’s Friday! This has been a crazy busy and stressful week. I feel like I’ve been going non-stop lately and it doesn’t look like it’s going to let up any time soon. Work has just been totally insane, so much to work on and get done and not enough time. On top of it Margot is getting her canine teeth and is so cranky! Every day when we are driving home from work she’s been crying the whole way and it seriously grates on my nerves. Our commute is at least 40 minutes! By the time we get home I am in dire need of a glass of wine!
Luckily, the 4th of July is right around the corner and we will get a few days off. Hopefully we will be able to get away up north for the weekend for some relaxation. Here’s what I’ll be packing in my bag…
This top could not be any more perfect // I am declaring that jean skirts are back! // These slides would be so perfect with these outfits // Loving the sexy one piece trend! // A little dress with stars on it to throw over your swimsuit
Have a great weekend! I think we are going to visit my husband’s grandparents. Anyone doing anything fun? I’d love to hear!

Glowy Makeup and a GIVEAWAY!
I adore a glowy makeup look, especially in the summer. Today I’m giving the step by step on how I achieved this look using the Hourglass Ambient Light Palette.
Primer – First I primed my skin with the YSL Touche Eclat Blur Primer. It has a subtle shimmer to it that blurs everything and gives you a major glow!
Corrector – As always I correct my under eyes with the Becca Corrector and a concealer brush
Concealer – I conceal my under eyes with It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye using a Beauty Blender
Foundation – For foundation I used Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk with a Beauty Blender
Brows – I lightly filled in my brows with Glossier Boy Brow in Blonde. Sometimes I fill in my brows more but for this look I wanted to keep it light.
Powder – After my liquids set in I dusted all over using the Hourglass Ambient Light Brush with the Dim Light color for the palette. This powder gives you some major glow, honey!
Bronzer – Using the Ambient Light Brush again I used the Radiant Light color from the palette anywhere the sun would naturally hit, under my cheekbones, and my jaw line.
Highlight – Again I used the Ambient Light Brush and highlighted along the tops of my cheekbones, the tops of my brow bones, and down my nose using the Incandescent Light color.
Blush – I applied Marc Jacobs blush in Kink and Kisses on the apples of my cheeks.
Eyes – I used the Naked Basics Palette in the color Venus all over my lids, Faint in the crease, and Crave along my lash lines.
Mascara – I applied Covergirl Clump Crusher Waterproof to my lower lashes (I have extensions on top).
Lips – I used Charlotte Tillbury lip liner and lipstick in Pillow Talk.
And this is your lucky week because I’m giving away an Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette and brush to one lucky follower! Head over to my Instagram to enter! Good luck!

Easy Breezy Maxi Dress
As my mom would say, “It’s hotter than blue blazes out there!” Seriously, summer came back to Wisconsin with full force this weekend. We had a low-key relaxing weekend which I desperately needed after the busy-ness of last week. It felt so good to have no big obligations and be able to sleep, relax, and get caught up on a few things around the house. With the high temperatures on Saturday, Matt went out and bought a baby pool and some floats. We set the pool up in the back yard like the classy folks that we are. Margot loved it! She was so cute asking to go swimming, haha. We loved it too, I don’t really care how it looks! It was a great way to stay cool and hang out together. Sunday we had more “pool time” and Matt even cooked us dinner, even though it was Father’s Day.
We attempted a family walk before dinner on Sunday but we didn’t make it very far in the heat. I wore this gauzy maxi all weekend which felt so breezy and cool. I’ve also been carrying around this big market tote everywhere, it’s just so easy to throw in everything we all need! I hope you all had a wonderful Father’s Day and have a great week!

New Skincare Favs
I am a total skincare junky and I can’t resist trying new things! I always come back to some iteration of my 5 Steps for Great Skin but here are some items I’ve recently been testing and loving:
Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm – I first tried this as a sample and loved it enough to try a full size. I use this as my oil cleansing step to take off my makeup at the end of the day. The charcoal helps to pull impurities out of the pores and legit makes me look like I have no pores. It’s ah-may-zing!
Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask – I’d been seeing this all over and hearing great things so of course I had to try it. I use this as the last step in my skincare routine at night as a final hydrating step to seal in all of my other products. I’ve been waking up with hydrated, glowing skin, and who doesn’t want that?!
Drunk Elephant Protini Peptide Cream – I am new to the Drunk Elephant brand but love their philosophy of clean ingredients that are proven to work. I read a review of this where the girl said after a few weeks of using this product it looked like she’d has Botox. I was instantly sold with those kinds of claims! I wouldn’t go that far yet, and let’s be honest that girl was probably in her 20s. But it’s a great moisturizer and I can definitely see some firming effects when using it. I’ll report back if it is truly life changing.
Drunk Elephant Babyfacial – Another DE product – I got this one as a mini in part of a set. This is an alpha hydroxy based chemical peel you leave on for 20 minutes a few times a week and then wash off. In love! It makes my skin as smooth as a baby’s bottom! Following this up with the Summer Fridays mask is a winner.

Denim and Lace
It was a rainy, chilly weekend here in Wisconsin. My parents were in town to watch Margot since I go to New York for work this week. My husband and I always say it takes three adults to raise a child and it is sooo nice to have a few extra hands around to help out! Margot is 20 months now and she is starting to get into some “terrible twos” behavior. On the one hand I think it’s funny and perfect because it’s exactly how she should be acting at this age and she is trying to figure out the rules. But there are definitely times when I just want to move from point A to point B and it is really difficult when someone is saying “no” to everything. Case in point – on Saturday before my parents got here we went to the grocery store and there were wine samples, so of course I got one. Margot wanted a drink and when I said, “No, that’s a Mama drink” she had a total melt down. I was that lady in the grocery store pushing around a screaming toddler in my cart! So I did something I thought I would never do – I bought a pack of juice boxes and opened it right up and gave her a drink. Sigh. My motto as a mom has become “Everyone has to do what they have to do.” And it’s totally true and applicable for every situation we encounter as moms.
On Sunday we ran some errands and stopped at Lake Park to walk around a bit while there was a break in the rain. It got really windy and started to rain again but we were still able to take a few photos. We will definitely be going back there a lot this summer. It was such a dreary weekend I thought this pink lace dress was the perfect piece to brighten things up, and my denim jacket was necessary with the cooler temps we are having. This market basket tote it humongous but perfect when you are carrying a diaper clutch, snacks, and a sippy cup along with all of your regular gear. Summer can come back to Wisconsin any time now!
Have a great week! If you follow me on Instagram stories I’ll try to share some snaps from NYC this week!
